Advocate for Change

A record number of Rhode Islanders (89,000 per month) are currently seeking food assistance – and that number grew to more than 102,000 individuals in fall 2025. In addition to distributing food to address this growing need, the Food Bank works with our congressional delegation, senators, and representatives to advocate for policies that address the root causes of hunger. Here’s how you can help.

Current Legislative Actions

In response to growing demand for food assistance, two bills have been introduced (H7259 & S2237) to increase the State’s budget allocation to RICFB.

Did You Know…

  • One in three Rhode Island families can’t afford adequate food.
  • The Food Bank’s 137 member agencies served more than 102,000 Rhode Islanders during the fall 2025 federal government shutdown alone, which led to a pause in SNAP benefits.
  • Upcoming SNAP policy changes threaten to increase hunger and demand further; shifting costs to states, and removing and reducing benefits for thousands of households.
