The Quiet Impact of Thoughtful Donors

Jean Vermette was a dedicated teacher in the Bristol-Warren school system who had supported our mission with annual gifts for almost three decades. This winter, we received Jean’s final check.

Sadly, Jean passed away in January and within two weeks, we were surprised by the arrival of a generous five-figure gift from her estate that had an immediate impact on our acquisition and distribution of healthy, nutritious food at a time of great need.

Jean had thoughtfully planned her legacy in advance. And while we will never be able to thank her for naming the Food Bank as a beneficiary of her estate, her gift was meaningful.

Since its founding, the Food Bank has been the recipient of hundreds of such planned gifts. The first recorded bequest was received in 2000 from a woman who named the Food Bank a beneficiary along with family members when her will was drawn up in 1995.

We celebrate Jean Vermette and members of the 1982 Benefactors’ Society for their quiet, generous legacy of preserving the Food Bank as a cornerstone of our community’s safety net.
