For millions of people in America, and far too many in our own state of Rhode Island, a daily meal isn’t a choice between different dishes. It’s a choice between food and other crucial needs—like medicine, electricity, or childcare. Watch a short video about the choices many families are forced to make.
Each September during Hunger Action Month, food banks across the country come together to raise awareness and inspire action to help people facing the impossible choices of food insecurity.
As the Rhode Island Community Food Bank commemorates its 40th anniversary, we’ll be sharing throughout the month all the ways we’re innovating to end hunger, and how YOU can take action during Hunger Action Month.
Hunger Action Month, Feeding America’s annual nationwide campaign designed to raise awareness about hunger in the United States, will also be commemorated at the Rhode Island State House, where the dome will be lit in the cause’s official color of orange from September 12 – 17. We encourage Food Bank supporters to wear orange throughout the month to show their support and share how they’re taking action against hunger on social media! We’ll be turning the Food Bank’s social media platforms orange to raise awareness for the impossible choices faced by those experiencing food insecurity.
