Women Ending Hunger

Over the course of a few short months, over one hundred women leaders have committed their time and talent to create an action plan to address hunger in Rhode Island – Women Ending Hunger. Working together, they have inspired a renewed commitment and movement to end hunger.

Women Ending Hunger has ignited a powerful new engine for change for all who face hunger in our state. It could well serve as a national model, tapping into the economic, social and personal connection that women have to this basic question of our humanity – the need for adequate food. This initiative brings new promise, inspiration, creativity and healthy indignation for tackling this most solvable problem in our community.

Our team of dedicated women has assumed the frontlines of the fight against hunger in three distinct forms:

Access to Food Assistance

This committee increases participation of eligible families in the federal food stamp program and improves access to the Food Bank’s network food assistance outlets.

Health, Nutrition & Home Economics

Co-Chair, Stephanie Chafee, Founder, Rhode Island Free Clinic
Co-Chair, Tracey Cugno, Director of Development, Rhode Island PBS

Provide nutrition awareness and food budgeting information through materials and community workshops.

Recruitment

This committee recruits more supporters and women leaders to help generate resources for the Food Bank and grow the Women Ending Hunger membership.
