Food Bank Launches RI Meals 4 Kids Program

Utilizing available stimulus funds, the Rhode Island Community Food Bank recently kicked-off a new, one-time, emergency food distribution program aimed at providing statewide child hunger-relief. The program will serve 10,000 low-income families with children, providing each with a box of high-quality, nutritious breakfast and lunch items during the first few weeks of September. September is Hunger Action Month: Do Something about Nothing!

Across the nation people will be taking action against hunger in their communities next month. Here in Rhode Island, helping the Food Bank is easy.

Through our Nothing campaign, you can help provide meals to your neighbors in need. Your school, faith community or civic group can help the Food Bank raise funds for the hungry by filling cans of Nothing with coins for donation. We'll even give you the cans! Learn how it works here.

When most of us want food, we go to the grocery store and buy it. But for many, that simply isn't an option. With more Rhode Islanders than ever turning for help feeding their families, the Food Bank has found an easy way for people to get involved to make a difference. Learn more by visiting www.nothing.org.

Neighborhood Pantry Express Gets Rolling

Using a farmers' market approach to provide fresh, nutritious produce to Rhode Islanders in need, the Food Bank's innovative Neighborhood Pantry Express program is underway for 2010. Last summer, Neighborhood Pantry Express made weekly distributions in high-need communities such as Newport, Providence, Peace Dale and Woonsocket, providing more than 400,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. The program operates during the growing season, throughout July and October. Click here to learn more about Neighborhood Pantry Express.
