Food Bank Kicks-Off Summer Food Drive

Despite the rain and cool temperatures, summer is officially here. For many, the summer brings fun and vacations. Unfortunately, for too many of our neighbors in need, it is also a time characterized by hunger. To help meet the increasing need for food assistance that occurs when children are out of school, the Food Bank kicked-off the Summer Food Drive with a Press Conference on June 23rd. To read more, and learn how you can get involved, visit our Summer Food Drive page.

Rhode Island Community Farm Expands

The summer has unofficially begun and our Community Farm programs are ready to "grow."

Last year, the Community Farm program grew a record 130,000 pounds of produce to benefit the state's hungry. This year, the yield is expected to be even higher thanks to more land available for farming. At Franklin Farm in Cumberland, more than 125 people participated in a kick-off event last week to plant more than 1,500 vegetable seedlings. Visit our Farm News page to read more and watch NBC-10's coverage of the Franklin Farm planting.

Congratulations Class 36!

The Food Bank recently graduated its 36th class of Community Kitchen, a 14-week culinary job-training program for low income and unemployed adults with a ceremony at our 200 Niantic Avenue facility. During their training, these students created more than 20,000 meals for Kids Cafe, a program that serves evening meals to children at risk of hunger. Read about their successes here.

Bank of America Adopts RI Community Food Bank

Team Bank of America has adopted the Rhode Island Community Food Bank as a charity of choice. The bank's Charitable Foundation recently donated $45,000 as part of its national $1 million Feeding America campaign and through a local grant to alleviate hunger in our communities. Additionally, Bank of America employees collected nearly 1,000 pounds of pasta for Rhode Islanders in need, and will continue with specific item collections during the upcoming months.
