The Community Kitchen program actively seeks internship sites for students to gain valuable hands-on experience.

Provide Student Internships

As part of the Community Kitchen program, students gain experience in the culinary world not only through classroom instruction and Kids Cafe meal production but through internships. During the 14-week program, students are scheduled to spend one day per week at their internship sites for approximately 9 weeks.

The Community Kitchen program actively seeks diverse internship sites (including restaurant, institutional and corporate kitchens as well as banquet facilities) for Community Kitchen students. These sites offer the student the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while further developing their culinary skills and confidence within the workplace.

The benefits to the host internship are numerous:

  • Provision of a valuable personnel resource at absolutely no expense
  • Opportunity to mentor an individual embarking on a career in food service
  • Fostering an individual’s success as he/she takes strides to achieve positive goals
  • Exposure as a valuable Community Partner of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank
  • Evaluation of a potential employee’s skills prior to hiring
  • Each Community Kitchen student is covered under the Food Bank's Insurance Policy
  • Philanthropic promotion via the Food Bank’s media outreach and presence on www.rifoodbank.org

The Community Kitchen program is grateful to our internship partners, including The Crowne Plaza, The Pinelli-Marra Restaurant Group, T’s Restaurant, Hasbro Corporate Cafeteria, The Capital Grille, Red Stripe, The Providence Marriot's Bluefin Grille, Union Station, Rhode Island Hospital, Ted's Montana Grill, Texas Roadhouse, Tockwotton Home and many others for offering Community Kitchen students the opportunity to learn within their workplace.
